Software developer behemoth Microsoft is slated to release the next version of its work suite Microsoft Office 2010 in May 12. Meanwhile, the company is not planning, as of the moment, for a version of the software for rival Apple’s latest gadget – the iPad.ms-office-2010

Despite initial plans last February that they’re looking at the possibility, Stephen Elop, head of Microsoft’s business division, said that there are no plans for the Office to make an appearance for the slate-styled iPad.

Elop also stated that they see no threat with other office suites such as Google Docs and other free internet based applications.

Office 2010 will be the first 64-bit version of the suite and will be available for Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Its beta version drew 6 million downloads, that’s almost double the downloads for the beta version of Office 2007. Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 and Office Mobile 2010 will be released and updated respectively this year.
